Root Canal Treatment
Endodontic treatment is necessary when the pulp inside of the tooth becomes inflamed or infected. The inflammation or infection can be the result of decay, cracked teeth, or  a repeated number of dental procedures on the tooth resulting in traumatizing the pulpal tissue.  An accident or trauma to the tooth may also cause pulp damage.  If pulp inflammation or infection in the tooth is left untreated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess or even loss of the tooth.

Signs of pulp damage include pain, prolonged sensitivity to cold or heat, discoloration of the tooth and swelling or tenderness near the tooth.  Sometimes there are no symptoms of pain, however with further examination there may be radiographic signs of infection present on the tooth.

Dr. Dowling will examine the tooth to see if it will need root canal treatment and will benefit from the procedure.
